About The Dentist

Meet Dr. Marty Frankel

Dr. Marty Frankel has been a cosmetic dentist for over 35 years. He is an advocate of staying up to date on new techniques and learning, in fact he has been to different places all over the world  to study with some of the most brilliant and progressive minds in dentistry.

The mouth was conceptually isolated from the rest of the body at some point in the history of dentistry and medicine. According to him, we cannot hope to stay healthy if we “break people off at the throat.” The research he has done has repeatedly reminded him of the mouth’s holistic and personal physiologic relations with the rest of the body — it is a portal to the rest of the body. He believes that a person cannot be fully and truly healthy unless their mouth is in top-shape condition. To that end, his goal is to teach people to respect those “mouth-body” associations in order to help them become healthier, happier, and pain-free.

Benefits of Regular Dental Visits

 Comfort

We recognize and respect the fact that many patients are anxious about their dental procedures. At our office, we do everything possible to make your visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We believe that anxiety will greatly be reduced when patients know what to expect during the procedure, so we explicitly explain what to anticipate during their treatment so that none of the steps we take during the treatment will be intimidating or come as a surprise. Additionally, we suggest you bring your headphones and listen to your favorite music throughout the treatment. If those things still cannot seem to guarantee comfort, inquire us for dental sedation options.

Good Old-Fashioned, Personalized Service

We take pride in offering the highest degree of traditional customer service. Throughout your stay at our office, we aim to provide you with the best possible individual treatment. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all kind of treatment. When you come for a consultation, we allot our time to discuss things that are important to you such as your dental problem, your desired goal, level of comfort towards dental procedures, and different routes and alternatives on how you want to reach your smile goals. Your voice is important to us. Of course, we will suggest the best options for you to choose from but that is not to say you will not have an opinion on the results and the procedures on how to achieve them.

Can Detect Systemic Health Issues

The head and neck test is another aspect of dental examinations. Swelling, lumps, deformities, and other disease signs can be checked by the dentist in the lymph nodes, abdomen, and jaws. The dentist will refer the patient to the appropriate medical provider if a problem is discovered.

Check for Oral Cancer

A dentist will examine the teeth and gums as well as check for signs of oral cancer in the mouth of their patient. This is excellent news since oral cancer will quickly progress to a life-threatening condition if left untreated.

An individual who visits the dentist every six months and has this exam has a low risk of developing late-stage oral cancer.

Keep Gum Disease at Bay

The early stages of gum disease, for the most part, are asymptomatic. This makes it difficult for you to detect gum disease all by yourself. Dentists, on the other hand, are qualified to detect gum disease even though it attempts to hide.

The dentist will check the gums for firmness during a routine checkup. Swelling, receding gums, and deep gum pockets will all be examined. If the dentist notices any of these concerning signs, the root cause will be addressed. A dentist would also happily advise a patient on how to properly care for their gums because when their oral habits improve, early gum disease usually disappears.

Help with Sleep Problems

It is no secret that many people suffer from sleep problems and some of them can be caused by dental pain and discomfort. Moreover, we also see symptoms of sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, such as tooth grinding and injury, a red throat, a small jaw, and so on. Sleep Apnea Dentist Dr. Frankel can definitely help ease the discomfort by examining and taking significant measures to improve or prevent them in the future. We will examine your oral health condition and suggest ways to treat and improve them so that the problem with sleeping can significantly improve. Otherwise, if it is not related to dental health, we will refer you to a sleep specialist for apnea or other sleep problems.

Preventing Bad Breath

When you regularly have your mouth checked for plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease and then have them cleaned regularly, you also significantly lower your chances of getting bad breath.

Avoiding Tooth Loss

Our goal is to protect your teeth, as well as prevent tooth decay and other issues that might lead to tooth loss. With regular dental visits, you should be able to avoid the need for an Emergency dentist both now and in the future.

Why Choose Dr Marty Frankel- Smiles By Design?

Our Practice Core Values

We have three core values that are incorporated into every patient and course of treatment in our practice. First, we believe that the mouth and the body are connected physiologically and will customize our treatment to respect this connection. Second, being a TMJ dentist, we believe a physiologic “bite” is at the core of good dental care. This means balanced muscles of the head and neck, healthy jaw joints (TMJ’s), ease of chewing, and pain-free. Lastly, we do not use dental amalgam, otherwise known as silver coloured fillings.

Our Mission and Commitment

Our mission is to change people’s lives by eliminating pain and suffering related to dental, periodontal, and TMJ dysfunction. We strive to reduce our dental clients’ self-consciousness due to unattractive smiles (many people will not smile and cover their mouth from embarrassment). We also aim to eliminate anxiety and fear that is associated with dental visits. This is very common and we want people to know the experience of being able to come to a dental visit free of dental fear and anxiety, know that they will be listened to and that their dental and emotional needs will be met.

I have been working in the dental industry for almost 25 years.  20 of those years have been with Dr. Frankel.  I love coming to work everyday and being able to learn new things all the time.  My greatest reward is seeing my patients’ great smiles at the end of their treatment and feeling their appreciation for what we can do for them.

I live in Toronto with my family.  I have two grown children, Matthew and Merrylla.  When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I love to bake for them and entertain. Some of my hobbies include baking and reading.

My professional career spans more that 20 years, starting in the computer industry working for marketing firms, large
technology companies and a college. In 2005 I switched to the dental industry, starting off as a Level 2 Assistant and
working my way up to Clinic Manager for several large practices. My computer experience gave me exposure to the
corporate world of systems, and I have been highly successful at applying those skills to the dental industry.
When I am not at the dental office I enjoy travelling, downhill skiing and raising money for local charities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cosmetic dentistry is a form of dental care aimed at improving the look of your teeth and your smile. Modern cosmetic dentistry is designed to improve the appearance of your teeth if you are suffering from stains, discoloration, wear, chipped teeth, broken teeth, misaligned teeth, misshapen teeth, or gaps in your teeth.

Aside from improving the functionality of your teeth and mouth, cosmetic dentistry can do wonders in improving your self-confidence. This boost to your attitude can have a seriously positive effect on your social interactions and professional career. Do not wait any longer! Cosmetic dentistry can open up a whole new world of opportunities.

Every smile is unique and requires different levels of treatment. Some services – like teeth whitening – can be completed in a single visit while other treatments may require multiple visits. Our team of dental care professionals will make sure to walk you through the process and give you the exact details of how long your plan will take.

First, you will need to schedule an appointment with one of our talented dentists. We will carefully examine your teeth and gums to assess the cause and extent of your cosmetic issues. We can then recommend the most appropriate treatment options.

The frequency of dentist visits will depend on the age of the patient. Dentists recommend that a child should visit a dentist when the first tooth comes in and then continue visits every 6 months or as advised by the dentist.

While it may be focused mainly on enhancing the visual features of the teeth, other cosmetic procedures also improve the health of the teeth. Treatments like veneers, fillings, crowns, inlays, and onlays, for instance, can restore the structures that were once compromised to prevent the damage from spreading further. Plaque and bacteria can also be eliminated during a teeth whitening session, therefore minimizing the patient’s chances of developing oral complications.

Every patient’s needs and desires are different. However, most people are happy to know that a great smile may cost a fraction of the price they anticipate. In most cases, dentists offer several options at varying costs and also create a full treatment plan depending on your budget.

We offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry procedures, including teeth whitening, cosmetic veneers and other treatments that repair, replace, enhance or straighten teeth that are discolored, misshapen, misaligned or damaged.

A cosmetic dentist is trained to safely and effectively provide a variety of treatments that are designed to enhance your smile. If you have missing teeth, you feel that your teeth are crooked, or you’re an adult looking for an alternative to braces, a cosmetic dentist can help you achieve the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.

Just as every smile we treat is unique, so are the treatments we provide. While cosmetic treatment times may vary, some treatments are completed within one office visit.
